조지 오웰(George Orwell)의 6가지 글쓰기 원칙

1. 인쇄물에서 흔히 본 직유, 은유는 '절대' 쓰지 않는다.
    (Never use a metaphor, simile or other figure of speech 
     which you are used to seeing in print.)


2. 짧은 단어를 쓸 수 있을 때는 '절대' 긴 단어를 쓰지 않는다.
    (Never use a long word where a short one will do.)


3. 빼도 상관없는 단어는 '반드시' 뺀다.
   (If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out.)


4. 능동태를 쓸 수 있다면 '절대' 수동태를 쓰지 않는다.
    (Never use the passive where you can use the active.)


5. 일상생활용어로 대체할 수 있다면 
    외래어나 과학용어, 전문용어는 '절대' 쓰지 않는다.
   (Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word or a jargon word 
    if you can think of an everyday English equivalent.)


6. 대놓고 상스러운 표현을 쓸 수밖에 없다면 위 다섯 원칙을 깨버린다. 
    (Break any of these rules sooner than say anything outright barbarous.)
